Franklin turns on nature's power
There is light rain through the night but not enough to keep the river rising. We have gone to sleep with the constant flood of the Franklin River on the rise, surging past our cosy cave campsite. But by morning the river has dropped about 30 centimetres. This is to be a rest day on our rafting trip down the Franklin. We have carried our gear past the rapids known as Newlands Cascades but the rafts remain up-river.

A journey through the rapids
The wetsuited walkers waiting for us at the end of the Mt McCall track are hopping from foot to foot. It doesn't feel terribly cold but we've just left the protection of a troop carrier. We don wetsuits, reorganise waterproof backpacks and begin a descent of several hundred metres to the river. There is a safety briefing, paddling lessons and then, well before noon on this early autumn day, we are floating down a swelling river.
New arrivals at Zoodoo Wildlife Park Zoodoo Wildlife Park is pleased to announce the arrival of two white African lion cubs. Zoodoo Wildlife Park is the third establishment in Australia to import white lions and certainly a first in Tasmania.
