Website wins national award

tttrTASMANIAN Travelways has collected a national award for online marketing, after its website launch in February this year.

At the Fairfax Newspaper and Publisher Awards held in Sydney on Friday, Tasmanian Travelways was awarded the Best Integrated Online Marketing award.

The tourism magazine moved online this year after 50 years in print and features online booking and information from tourism operators.

Independent Publishers Tasmania manager Dan Ryan accepted the award and said it was testament to the team that had worked to move the publication online.

"It is a great recognition of the work that goes into it, it was a real leap of faith to jump on and create a website," Mr Ryan said.

"We decided to make the move and embrace online technology to promote Tasmanian Tourism products."

Mr Ryan said the website was simple to navigate and offered everything to promote Tasmania's tourism industry.

"It has live booking and generates itineraries, but it is more than that, it has events calendars and news as well."

The award recognised the best use of print and online to promote a particular publication.

Another Tasmanian finalist at the awards, The Examiner's Buy Locally campaign, missed out on winning the events category at the presentation evening, which was attended by about 450 newspaper and publishing representatives.
